Trail makeover planned for Port Talbot Half Marathon

Front Runner Events joins Port Talbot Harriers to create spectacular new race in the Afan Forest Park

Front Runner Events are building an impressive portfolio of the highest quality races in Wales, including the Great Welsh Marathon (10 April), Gorseinon 10K (30 April), JCP Swansea Half Marathon (12 June), Cardiff Metropolitan University Cardiff 10K (4 September) and M&D Care Llanelli Half Marathon (25 September).

The latest event to come under the Front Runner Events umbrella is the Port Talbot Half Marathon on Sunday 14th August 2022, created by Port Talbot Harriers six years ago and due to be given a trail race makeover for this summer in the idyllic setting of Glyncorrwg in the Afan Forest Park, with its many mountain biking routes through the Afan Valley.

Port Talbot is easily accessible via the M4 from England and is well known for its beautiful Aberavon beach on Swansea Bay. Less well-known is the Baked Bean Museum of Excellence!

Port Talbot Half Marathon represents a new dimension to the Front Runner Event series. As a trail race, the event will provide a new opportunity for the Welsh road race specialists, as they extend their event delivery services in the sector.

David Martin-Jewell, MD at Front Runner Events said: “We are excited to bring the Port Talbot Half into the Front Runner Events portfolio. This great event has done so much good for the growth of Port Talbot Harriers. Having such strong community links and backing, we are keen to continue and build on the fantastic work that has been done since the event began in 2016.”

Tash Smith, Race Director said: “This is a new type of event for us and it’s wonderful that we now have a trail race to offer our runners. We will have a lot of dialogue with the Harriers over the coming weeks and months as we look to reflect the community spirit of this great race".

Bernie Henderson, Chairman of Port Talbot Harriers said: “Port Talbot Harriers are delighted to partner with Front Runner Events to enable the ever-popular Port Talbot Half Marathon to be reinstated into the annual race calendar. Front Runner Events will bring their experience and expertise in organising larger races, while we will provide detailed knowledge of this event in this community and support with our volunteer base. Together we hope to secure this unique event in the spectacular environment of the Afan Valley for many years to come.”
