Worcester Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K Medals

Way To Go Worcester!

Winning runs and personal satisfaction in the full, half marathon and 10K

Temperatures rose along with the gradient at the Worcester Full and Half Marathon (Sunday 21 May) as runners in all three races hotfooted it to individual glory. They put in the hard yards on a picturesque course and reaped the rewards...

This year saw the 12th Worcester Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K from Tempo Events with St Richard’s Hospice their chosen charity again this year. A good number of runners wore t-shirts displaying the snowdrops logo as part of their support for this worthy cause.

The event was held at Worcester Rugby Club with the full and half marathon starting at 9.30am followed by the 10K at 10am. Competitors in the marathon tackled two laps; those in the half marathon ran one lap before diverging at 11 miles and carrying onto the finish. 10K runners headed in the same direction as the other two races then turned off onto the canal towpath for 4K before rejoining them and continuing to the finish.

It became hotter as time went on, making it even tougher for the runners especially those in the marathon with the heat and hills taking their toll. The water stations (7 in the marathon, 3 in the half) were always a welcome sight.

Shrewsbury AC’s Jim Hickinbottom won the Marathon in 2:43:09; Lindsay Judge was the women’s winner in 3:28:23.

Mark Fritchley of Worcester AC was first home in the Half Marathon, crossing the line in 1:19:30. Lydia Mann was the first female in 1:27:55.

Over in the 10K, it was victory for Tony Farnsworth of Black Pear Joggers in 33:50. Sally Russell of Worcester AC won the women’s race in 41:01.

There were bespoke medals and tech t-shirts for marathon and half marathon finishers; finishers in the 10K received a medal.

A round of applause for everyone involved in delivering a well organised event with the Worcester Sea Cadets singled out for praise. Their hard work and commitment contributed to its success and was appreciated by the organisers and many others.
