This 5 Miler Has Lots To Offer
Fancy a spring race on a multi-terrain course through the Goyt Valley?
Back for its 2023 outing, the Offerton 5 is a 5-mile multi-terrain race that starts and finishes at Woodbank Stadium, home of the race organiser - Stockport Harriers. Taking in not just one, but two parks the race offers runners an undulating off-road course and provides a great springtime challenge.
Scheduled for 17 May at 7pm, the race is organised by Stockport Harriers & AC and boasts a mix of trails, gravel paths, tarmac, track and lanes in attractive surroundings. It is seen by many as a perfect midweek race and one that is suitable for all types of runners. Plus the short distance means no late finish on a school night!
With a route through Woodbank and Vernon Parks and on trails through the scenic Goyt Valley, the course is an undulating one-lap route that offers stunning views along the Goyt River Valley. And it's traffic-free, so headphones are permitted.
There are prizes for the top three male and female finishers as well as the first male and female teams (three to count), as well as age group prizes from V40 to V70+. The event also provides free race photos for you to download - a fantastic bonus!
The route starts and finishes on the track and is approximately 40% on tarmac paths and 60% on trails or grass. So, unless there has been a dry spell for 8-10 days prior to race day, which might make the route suitable for road shoes, you may be more comfortable in trail shoes.
