Essar Four Villages Half Marathon

No-frills Four Villages Half Marathon scheduled for 2021

A trimmed down Essar Four Villages Half Marathon (4VHM) for 2021 could be a sign of how things might be done in the immediate future. Organisers have set a date of Sunday 17 January 2021 and are planning a ‘back to basics’ version but they say this is 'a race for runners by runners' and will retain those features that have made it one of the most popular races in the UK.

Races continue to be cancelled or postponed and as this year’s season looks very problematic thoughts are turning to 2021 and the likelihood of events going ahead. Runners need something to look forward to and what better than a scenic half marathon around four Cheshire villages also known for its great community spirit.

The Essar Four Villages Half Marathon is a ‘must do’ in many runner’s diary and the January date makes it a good test of early season fitness levels. Check out runABC North's 2020 race report here.

In order to minimise financial risk due to the global pandemic organisers Helsby Running Club have created this simpler race with no medals or goody bags. Any savings will be donated to two local hospices and community groups that the club support.

Helsby Running Club plan to host the race from their new club house meaning a slightly different location for the start and whilst there isn’t any bling, they are considering whether to give every finisher a token/memento in recognition of their efforts. There may be a reduction in the number of places available to ease pressure on the local community whose goodwill enables this event to take place.

This is an ongoing situation and as such, the organisers will keep everyone updated over the coming months. Feedback is welcome.

Fingers crossed for Sunday 17 January and the Essar Four Villages Half Marathon!
