An Otterly Great Challenge!

A new challenge from Big Bear Events will see runners assemble at Kingsbury Water Park this September...

Big Bear Events have a new challenge for 2023, and it is 'otterly' brilliant! The Otter Challenge will take place on 7 September and organisers are promising 'an event that enables all abilities of runner to run together'.

Taking place at Kingsbury Water Park, (Nr Sutton Coldfield), runners can expect a course that is solid underfoot, flat as a pancake and that offers varied scenery. Organisers commented: "The whole park is a former mine (we believe) and it was flooded to create many pools that you'll run around with some sections of established wooded area too.

"As with all of our 6 hour events, parking is plentiful, toilets and a cafe are nearby and we'll be on hand to look after you! And with a new race comes a new medal too!"

But what exactly does the challenge entail? Ultimately those taking part can run as many 5K laps as they wish in the time limit. You may decide to run one lap in 20 minutes, pick up your medal, flapjack and beer and go home! Alternatively you can head out on your 15th lap at 14:55 and finish in 6:30 having covered over 50 miles! It’s completely up to you.

There is no pressure from the organisers, but they say that they will always check to see if you want one more lap! This format is great for people looking to run further than they’ve ever done before, do a long training run for future events or to enjoy a sociable event with friends.

The conditions underfoot will be mixed with sections on grass, gravel tracks and a few very short sections on asphalt, the views are great and apparently runners are guaranteed to see a plethora of wildfowl!
