Neilston Pad Race 2026

Over The Top At The Pad

Historic Neilston Pad Race returns with trail running and a tough climb...

A true test of trail running returns to the west of Scotland as the Neilston Pad Race takes place on Saturday 2 May 2026, offering runners a unique challenge in East Renfrewshire.

Set against the backdrop of the iconic Neilston Pad, the 5.6 mile route delivers a mix of road, path and trail, with mud and a short but steep climb to the summit adding to the challenge.

Starting from the Neilston Show Field, the race forms part of the long running Neilston Agricultural Show, giving the event a strong community feel and making it more than just a race day.

The course loops around and climbs the Pad itself, a distinctive local hill rising above the village, before returning to the showground finish, creating a route that is both scenic and demanding in equal measure.

The Pad Race has a long standing place in Scottish running, with references to competitors racing it dating back decades and winners recorded in local distance running history.

Its connection to the Neilston Show, which has been held annually on the first Saturday in May for generations, adds further heritage, making it one of those events that blends sport, tradition and community in a way few races can match.

Recent editions have added an extra twist, with routes including a climb to the summit cairn to mark milestone celebrations, showing how the race continues to evolve while staying true to its roots.

With its mix of terrain, welcoming atmosphere and deep local history, the Neilston Pad Race offers something a little different, whether you are racing hard or simply enjoying the challenge of one of Scotland’s most characterful events.

Entries for 2026 have now closed but there's a waiting list and there's always next year!
