Runners Get their Mos on in Aberdeen and Perth

Hundreds of runners got themselves mo-tivated over the weekend to raise awareness and funds for men's health by taking part in the first Scottish events of ‘Movember’.

The first of the 2018 ‘MoRuns’ across the UK, Saturday’s Aberdeen event featured 1.5k, 5k and 10k runs, and was held in the city’s Hazlehead Park – normally home to one of the Granite City’s two parkruns.

Perth’s MoRun followed 24 hours later, with 5k and 10k events at North Inch.

Many runners got into the true spirit of ‘Movember’ by wearing fancy dress and donning moustaches to show their support for the Movember Foundation: the only charity tackling men's health on a global scale.

Since its inception in 2010, MoRunning events have raised just shy of £1 million for The Movember Foundation, to address some of the biggest health issues faced by men including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

Commenting on today's events Dave Krangel, founder of MoRunning, told runABC Scotland online: "Every MoRun event is important to us because the money raised goes to such a worthwhile cause.

"Every year MoRunning goes from strength to strength and we look forward to seeing more energy, more fancy dress and more smiles as people cross the finish line throughout the month of Movember."

MoRunning, in partnership with the Movember Foundation, will host a total of 22 MoRunning events throughout 'Movember'.

The final two Scottish MoRuns will be held next weekend. The Edinburgh MoRun, featuring 5k and 10k events, will be held in Holyrood Park (Saturday, 10 November). The Glasgow MoRun, again with 5k and 10k events, will be held in Glasgow Green (Sunday, 11 November).

Online entries for the Edinburgh event close today (Monday, 5 November) and for Glasgow tomorrow (Tuesday, 6 November). On the day entries may be available; check the individual race websites for details.
