Channel Hoppers Invited To Normandy
The Easter weekend weather might have been a tad disappointing but there are two more Bank Holiday weekends to look forward to in May. Will you risk a local leg stretch or do you fancy hopping across the English Channel for your next big challenge in the shadow of one of the wonders of the Western world?
Human Race Events invite British runners to join 5,000 competitors from more than 30 countries for the Marathon de la Baie du Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy, France on Sunday, 26 May. This is Spring Bank Holiday weekend in UK and the perfect opportunity to combine a running break with some spectacular tourism close to home.
The highlight of this race, which can be run solo or as a team of two, is the amazing medieval monastery that can be viewed at the start and forms the backdrop for the finish of this hugely popular event.
Run Mont Saint-Michel actually comprises four main events over two days. Saturday features the Trail de l'Archange over 55km of scenic trails, finishing on the steps of the imposing Mont Saint-Michel. There is also a half marathon version of this race named the Semi d'Avranches for those who are not yet ready for the full Mont.
Sunday is all about the traditional 26.2 mile road race and duo-marathon relay. The entire Bay of Mont Saint-Michel is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the marathon is renowned for its spectacular route. The duo-marathon requires two competitors to run as a relay team with the first runner starting at Cancale with the full marathon runners, handing over to the second runner in Cherrueix, who continues to the dramatic finish at the foot of Mont Saint-Michel.
Entry fees range from 30 euros for the Semi d'Avranches to 69 euros for the ultra-marathon. Full details are available at the official race website here. Feel Normandy are offering two free entries and discounts for 50 more competitors through this link.
