Manchester Is Ready For It!
Manchester all set for its biggest race day in a decade...
The AJ Bell Great Manchester Run 2025 is gearing up to be the biggest in ten years, with over 35,000 runners set to take on the 10K and Half Marathon on Sunday, 18 May. Add in more than 1,500 young runners tackling the Junior & Mini events on Saturday, 17 May, and the city is in for a weekend of running like no other.
Super Saturday will be bigger than ever, with young runners taking centre stage at Sportcity. This year’s event will get an extra boost of adrenaline as stars from the hit TV show Gladiators fire up the next generation of running champions on the start line.
Come Sunday, Manchester’s streets will be alive with the buzz of 35,000 runners and over 100,000 spectators, creating an atmosphere that is truly electric. Among those taking part are a host of celebrities, including boxer and reality TV star Tommy Fury, running alongside his brother Roman Fury in the Half Marathon. Actress and presenter Gemma Atkinson, who is returning to run for Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary, joined by her partner, Strictly Come Dancing’s Gorka Marquez.
But for many, this race is about more than medals and celebrity appearances. For runners like Emelone Ijeoma, aka ‘Flo’, it’s a chance to inspire, encourage, and make a difference. After experiencing the Great Manchester Run as a volunteer in 2018, Flo fell in love with the event’s energy. A diabetes diagnosis fast-tracked her focus on health, leading her to start jogging and walking. Now, she’s leading the charge for the NHS Blue Wave, rallying her colleagues and community to lace up, have fun and run for a cause.
With live BBC coverage from 11am to 1pm, the world will be watching as thousands of runners take on the challenge. But with places expected to sell out ahead of race day, now is the time to secure your spot. If you'd like to know more, visit the Great Manchester Run website.
