Littledown Harriers return two favourites to the Dorset calendar
We all need a break from time to time and Littledown Harriers have just refreshed their much loved marathon and five mile races after a rest of one year from the Dorset race calendar. The fully revitalised events are back with a bang in Bournemouth on Sunday 30 June (marathon) and Sunday 15 September (5 miles).
Both races benefit from being based at the superb Littledown Centre, Bournemouth, close to Kings Park. Littledown Centre is set in 47 acres of parkland and boasts some of the best swim, gym and multi-sports facilities around.
Littledown Marathon is truly unique in that it is run over exactly 26.2 laps! The beauty of this arrangement is that there is brilliant support for the entire race; runners are never far from help and they can also leave their personal refreshments at the hydration station, which will be passed every mile on the flat, grass course situated wholly within Littledown Park.
The marathon is chip-timed and the entry fee of £35/£37 includes free parking, showers, lockers and access to the cosy café and bar in Littledown Centre. The event limit is just 100, so this truly is a niche event organised for runners by runners, with a time limit of 6 hours.
The Littledown 5 is part of the Dorset Road Race League. Like its big brother marathon, it also enjoys all the facilities of Littledown Centre and has a specially struck medal for 2019 and a goody bag for all finishers. There will also be free massages by Active Therapy and full medical support by A2E.
Attention to detail by the host club includes a remeasured course and full UKA licence. The course starts and finishes beside the Littledown Centre cricket pavilion and includes a loop round the Common and Kings Park, home of AFC Bournemouth at Dean Court. Entries are just £10/£12 and limited to the first 350 runners, with around 200 already entered.
Full details of both races are available at Littledown Harriers website under Events.
