Hartley Hare Bounces Back

10K race with canal side pub for post run celebrations sounds a winner...

The Hartley Hare run will return on 20 September for its second edition, offering runners another chance to enjoy one of Staffordshire’s most scenic and sociable 10K (approximately) events. Starting at 4pm, the race begins and ends at the canal-side country pub, The Hartley, and takes participants on a largely off-road journey through trails, bridleways and quiet country lanes in the heart of the countryside.

Known for its welcoming atmosphere, the event is as much about the post-run celebrations as it is about the run itself. After crossing the finish line, runners and supporters can relax with food, drinks and live music at The Hartley Arms, soaking up the canalside views as the sun sets. The event raises funds for both local and national charities, adding an extra feel-good factor to the day. Every participant will receive a medal, with prizes and presentations for the winners.

The inaugural Hartley Hare in 2024 drew 70 runners and was hailed a huge success, despite a sudden downpour with thunder and lightning just before the start. Spirits remained high, and the challenging conditions did nothing to deter the field. John Grigg took first place in 47:54, with Keily Adey the first female finisher in 55:49.

Organisers say: "We are looking forward to welcoming both returning participants and new faces to this year’s race, which promises the same combination of stunning countryside, friendly competition and lively post-race celebrations."
