The Champs Race Returns

UK Athletics Half Marathon Championships returns to the Great North Run...

With around six months to go until the 2025 AJ Bell Great North Run on 7 September, the UK Athletics Half Marathon Championships is set to return to the world’s biggest half marathon, reaffirming its status as a premier event in British road running.

Paul Foster of The Great Run Company, expressed his pride in the event’s legacy, stating: “We are fiercely proud of our heritage in long-distance road running, so it is only fitting that the Great North Run once again plays host to such an important event in the UK road running calendar. The Great North Run always welcomes the world’s best athletes in our elite races, and the UKA Half Marathon Championships will be a true celebration of the best of British running.”

Jack Buckner of UK Athletics, echoed these sentiments: “Hosting our championship race at this iconic event gives British athletes the perfect platform to perform alongside a world-class field and spurred on by some of the best spectator support we experience in the UK.”

The UKA Half Marathon Championships is open to registered club runners from UK Athletics-affiliated clubs who meet the qualification times - 1:20:00 or faster for men and 1:30:00 or faster for women, achieved since 1 January 2024.

Demand for the 2025 Great North Run has soared to record levels, with registrations for ballot places doubling year on year. Those still hoping to take part can secure a charity place and run in support of one of the event’s many charity partners. Remember to check out GoFundMe and set up a fundraising page for the charity or cause that is close to your heart.
