Great South Run by Harry Elliott

Oh, We Do Like A PB Beside The Seaside

It's time to think about entering the 34th Great South Run...

It's the race that makes you stick your tongue out! Or throw your arms in the air! Or stop for selfies or to admire the glorious sea views from Portsea Island across the English Channel to the Isle of Wight.

The AJ Bell Great South Run is probably the world’s favourite 10-miler with inspiring history, salty sea air, and those fabulous views guaranteed. It’s an incredible event, with over 20,000 runners competing annually, raising millions for charities.

The route takes runners from Clarence Parade Southsea to Portsmouth Harbour, through the Historic Naval Dockyard. The finish is near Southsea Castle on the seafront. There is superb entertainment with rocking on-course music zones, charity cheering buses, awesome finish-line DJs, and a bustling Event Village.

With this being the 34th edition, organisers at Great Run have had time to put the great into the run, with a free event day tracking app; access to Great Run training plans; exclusive discounts when you sign up, and £10 off your next Great Run if you refer a friend. Naturally, there is chip timing, personalised numbers, and a comprehensive finisher's pack with a bespoke medal and (optional) event T-shirt.

The AJ Bell Great South Run weekend starts on Saturday 19 October 2024 with the Great South 5K at 10:00am, followed by the Mini Great South (1.2K) and Junior Great South (2.5K) runs for children on Saturday lunchtime.

The AJ Bell Great South Run 10-mile race first wave starts at 10:35am on Sunday 20 October 2024. This hugely popular event will likely sell out in advance, so sign up soon to avoid missing out.

The 2023 AJ Bell Great South Run winners were Zak Mahamed (Southampton AC, 46:41) and Lily Partridge (Birchfield Harriers, 54:04), who defended her women's title. Both ran new lifetime bests. Will you PB beside the sea?
