Great Bristol Run just got Greater!
With views like this it's still the best in the South West
Bristol is a proud city and a county in its own right, straddling the River Avon in the southwest of England, positioned neatly between Somerset and Gloucestershire. It has become an annual tradition for Bristol to be voted one of the best places to live in Britain and it's a great place to visit, particularly when the Great Bristol Run is on!
There are less than three months to go before the Great Bristol Run takes centre stage again on Sunday 25 September – with a new format as premiered last year of 10K and half marathon races on the same day.
As part of a host of refinements the race starts will be split with the 10K off at 9:00am and the half marathon an hour later. First staged in 1989, when it was known simply as the Bristol Half Marathon, it has since become a beacon on the distance running calendar with 10,000 runners on the course that passes under the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge (pictured).
This year it seems 'Great just got Greater' to quote the claim from Great Run, the team behind Great Bristol Run, and the entire Great Run series. This new promo video gives a glimpse of what you can expect:
So what else elevates Great Bristol Run to even Greater status? The organisers are promising stunning running at every turn as the city comes alive to welcome runners who will be energised by a new emphasis on sounds as well as the iconic sights around the course.
New for '22 are on-course power-up zones, including Pump It Up and Beats Boost – both DJ Trucks with high-energy tracks to provide that essential lift just when you need it most.
Pacers powered by music will blast out tunes along the course to keep motivation high and celebrations will continue way beyond the finish line with the brand new Après Run zone where runners, families, and friends can relax and enjoy the post-race buzz.
Great Bristol Run will stage the VI Runners 10K Challenge for a second time this year, in partnership with VI Runners Bristol, enabling people registered as severely sight impaired to take part in a mass participation event.
