Pendock Chicken Run springs back to normality
Everyone was pleased to be here again as this event returned to its pre-Covid format.
The Pendock Spring Chicken Run roamed free again this year (Sunday 27 March) after the 2020 and 2021 events were held as virtual races due to the pandemic. Fast finishes, food and fun at this popular event that makes a difference to the lives of the pupils at Pendock C E Primary School.
Sunday was a day to celebrate being with others, running 10K, 5K or the 1K Fun Run in a beautiful part of the country at a well organised and supported event. This is a run for all: young or old, novice or experienced, there is a distance to suit and a picturesque multi-terrain course to enjoy.
Youngsters and their parents got the event off to a flying start at 10.30am as they ran along Grafton Lane towards School Lane; a brief incline over the motorway bridge then into the school car park before going for glory over the finish line.
11am saw the start of the 5K and 10K races that included a couple of minor changes to the course in response to feedback. Everyone’s favourite – the hill - was kept in as the views from the summit are worth the climb (and sore legs!). Participants in both races ran on farm tracks, footpaths and roads, re-hydrated at the water stations and were enthusiastically supported to the end.
Chris Grubb of Ledbury & District Harriers won the 10K in 35:44; Evie Hawkesford-Johnson of Worcester AC was the winning female in 43:14.
In the 5K, James Cooke was first home in 21:14; Lois Finan the first lady in 23:04.
All the results from the 10K, 5K and 1K Fun Run can be found via the runABC Midlands Race Listings page. Use the drop down arrow to switch between the races.
The organisers commented on a day to remember, saying: “This year’s Spring Chicken was a little special; post-Covid and a bit of normal back in our lives and most importantly, us coming together as one again and having fun!”
They thanked all those who helped, supported and ran at this community event.
