Say 'hi' to HI Friends and HI Runners
June is bursting with friendly races like the Flaming June Half Marathon and 10K
You will be among friends at the Flaming June Half Marathon and 10K on Sunday 26 June 2022. This super-friendly event is promoted by Friends of Histon and Impington Recreation Ground (HI Friends) with support from the village running club, HI Runners.
The multi-terrain 13.1-miler has been running since 2014 with a break in 2020 due to COVID. The Flaming June 10K was added last year to expand the programme. The current champions in the half marathon are German athlete Johannes Arens (1:13:39) and unattached 19:18 parkrunner Anna Klucnika (1:29:26).
Flaming June 10K holders from 2021 are the local HI Runners Mike Nahorski (38:21) and Claire Rye (unattached, 44:26). There were just under 400 finishers evenly distributed across both events.
HI Friends are experienced race organisers with a growing reputation for mounting successful community events. The Flaming June races are the sister event to the established Bonfire Burn 10K held, naturally enough, in November.
The route for the longer race sews a patchwork quilt around the fertile fields that surround both villages in South Cambridgeshire and both races start and finish at Histon and Impington Recreation Ground. The 10K is a cut-down version of the half marathon course and both enjoy a single lap on quiet lanes and through the glorious countryside.
All competitors are chip-timed and the half marathon is off at 9:15am with the 10K following 30 minutes later. Parking is available at Vision Park offices and changing and bag drop are at the Recreation Ground.
