Christmas comes early to North Berwick Beach
Annual festive beach run going ahead -- but only for locals
Entries are now open for the North Berwick Santa Beach Run – but are restricted to residents of East Lothian.
The event, which will start on the beach near the Elcho Green on Sunday, 20 December, is one of the few festive runs going ahead in ‘real life’ this year. Santa hats will not be provided this year, but to help everyone get into the spirit of the season, fancy dress is actively encouraged.
To be COVID compliant, runners – and members of their household – must choose one of four race bubbles at registration (9.30, 10.00, 10.30 and 11.00).
Three race distances along the scenic East Lothian coastline are also on offer for ‘seasoned athletes, casual runners and families’ alike: 2k (for all ages, with children under seven accompanied by an adult); 5k (13+); and 10k (17+).
Runners with disabilities are also welcome to take part, with beach wheelchairs available for hire in North Berwick itself.
Participants will be sent their registration details by email on Thursday, 17 December and must make their own race numbers for race day. Race briefing notes will be emailed by Saturday 19 December, and results will be posted on the event’s Facebook page.
Entries on the day will not be accepted.
All proceeds from the North Berwick Santa Beach Run will go towards Just Wheels, a Scottish charity supporting people with physical disabilities in Tanzania by providing wheelchairs and training.
