Grow A Mo And Get Moving In Derby
Derby MoRun returns to Markeaton Park on 14 November with four distances, fancy dress and plenty of moustaches in support of Movember and men's health...
This relates to: Derby MoRun
November running comes with a few extra moustaches at Markeaton Park as Derby MoRun returns on Saturday 14 November in support of Movember and men's health.
The event is part of the nationwide MoRunning series, which began with a single event in 2009 and has since expanded across the UK. Derby is one of 17 live MoRunning dates scheduled during November this year.
There is something for virtually every generation. The Half Marathon starts at 9:30am, followed by the 5K and 10K at 10:00am. Younger runners get their turn at 11:45am with the chip timed 1.5K Mini MoRun for children aged three to 12.
All four races take place within Markeaton Park, one of Derby's best known green spaces. The undulating course mixes paths and trails, with the 5K completing one lap and the 10K two. Half Marathon runners begin with an additional 1.1K loop before completing four full laps.
But MoRunning has never been designed as an entirely serious morning of racing.
Fancy dress is encouraged, moustaches can be grown or painted on and prizes include awards for the best costumes and best Mo as well as the fastest runners. Every participant receives a MoRunning medal and finisher headband, with chip timing across every distance.
Behind the fun is the reason the series exists. MoRunning supports Movember, raising awareness and encouraging fundraising around men's health, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
Markeaton Park itself has been part of Derby life for centuries, passing to the Mundy family in 1516 before eventually becoming a public park in the early 20th century.
On 14 November, though, its history will have to compete with a rather more unusual sight: hundreds of runners, plenty of fancy dress and an impressive collection of moustaches taking over the trails.
