Cumbrian Half Of Beauty
This September half marathon is as scenic as it is well-supported...
If you're looking for an early autumn half to help with progression to a full marathon later in the season, then this Cumbrian 13.1 miler has an ideal date with the Keswick Half Marathon scheduled for 25 September.
Said to be one of the most scenic half marathons in the country, the challenging course takes runners around Derwentwater with an extra loop into the Newlands Valley. The fun isn't exclusively for adults as there are also a couple of fun runs planned for younger runners to join in with the race action too - a 1200m for ages 15 and under and a 400m for those aged 11 and under.
Set up by Keswick Rugby Club in order to raise funds for the club and to help operate a successful rugby program developing all age groups with good coaching and necessary equipment, this year organisers are hoping that money generated will go toward improving the club house and grounds as well as the on-field game.
The race did go ahead in 2021 but with a smaller field than usual, just over 200 runners took part with Black Combe Runners' Harry Stainton winning in a time of 1:19:07 while first woman home was Gateshead Harrier Kim Simpson in a time of 1:30:47.
Previous entrant Sarah Bayles was impressed with the event, saying: "Stunning scenery, super friendly marshals and lots of support out on the course." While Jennifer Roberts had similar thoughts: "Beautiful course with great views and challenging hills. Great support out on the course."
2022 marks the event's 40th anniversary and over on the race's Facebook page organisers have been marking the occasion by posting 'vintage' snaps from over the years. Taken part before? Check it out and see if you spot yourself!
