The Knaresborough Crag Rat Run is an undulating 5 mile mixed terrain race exploring Knaresborough and the River Nidd. Named after the traditional term for someone born in Knaresborough, the event starts at Knaresborough Cricket Club before descending from the crag towards the riverside.
Runners tackle a varied course of trails, woodland paths and tarmac, with approximately half of the route on surfaced sections. After descending to the River Nidd, the course follows riverside stretches and woodland before crossing the bridge near the Petrifying Well. A further section beside the river leads towards the climb back up the crag and the finish.
The course is suitable for a range of abilities and provides plenty of variety across its single lap, from faster tarmac stretches to narrower trails and the more demanding climbs around the crag. Finishers receive a medal and goody bag, with chip timing used to record results.
