Not too long to wait for Longest Day 10K
If all the dull days and short daylight hours are making you feel SAD, the good news is there are only 135 days from today (Thursday 6 February) to the Summer Solstice at 9:44pm on 20 June, when summer officially arrives, and just a few more days until the Chippenham Longest Day 10K on Wednesday, 24 June at 7:30pm.
DB Max Race Timing and Multi-Sports Events are the driving force behind this celebration of summer in the English countryside. Physical activity and making positive future plans are among the best ways of dealing with the 'winter blues', which a recent poll indicated affects more than 70% of people in the UK.
And what more uplifting sight and sound is there than a top Samba band – like the one that leads the runners to the start line at Chippenham Longest Day 10K, then keeps everyone entertained during the race and as the runners finish and are identified by the lively finish line commentator.
The course records at Chippenham are brisk but beatable. Simon Nott (Calne RC) ran 32:31 in 2018 and Jessica White (Marlborough RC) won in 39:58 last year. The latest edition of the race drew a capacity entry with 840 finishers and the running sweepers were home in 1:40:19.
Chippenham Longest Day 10K has a number of charity links. This year the primary charity partners are the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and The Physio Clinic is the official race partner.
The route is predominantly flat, with just 77m of ascent and the added bonus of a downhill finish. Taking in the town of Chippenham itself, with a start on the High Street, it is out into the countryside for a beautifully scenic run, with more than half the course completely rural.
Winners are well rewarded with £100 cash prizes and other highlights include live online results via the crack DB Max Sports Timing Team. There is on-site catering, toilets and showers; medals with optional iTab; chip timing and distance markers every kilometre; race photography from Charles Whitton Photography and discounted drinks at the Flying Monk!
