Entries open for second Chapelton of Elsick 10K

Entries have just opened for the second Chapelton of Elsick 10K, to be held on Sunday, 14 July.

With last year’s inaugural event selling out completely at 275 runners, organisers have increased the maximum number of entrants for the 2019 race to 400.

Last year’s run – in very warm conditions – raised over £2,500 for local Aberdeenshire charities, including Pillar Kincardine, Newtonhill Out of School Club, Newtonhill Park Improvement Project and Portlethen Community Ambulance.

Apart from some tweaks to the start area, the course will remain unchanged from 2018 – including what is only spoken about by last year’s finishers as ‘the hill’.

The multi-terrain route will continue to start and finish in the village of Chapelton near Newtonhill, and run through the beautiful Elsick House estate. The majority of the undulating route will again be on tarmac with some farm tracks and a short grass section.

The current course records were set by last year’s winners, both from Metro Aberdeen: Cameron Strachan (34:35) and Sarah Milne (43:14).

In addition to the 10k, there will again be a 100m toddler dash for the under 5s and a 1km race for primary school children. Both events will be organised by the Friends of Newtonhill School (FON).

There will be no entries to the Chapelton 10K on the day; online entries cost £15, include a bespoke medal and will close at midnight, 7 July.

For more information and pre-registration for the children’s races, please email the Friends of Newtonhill School.
