Run The Amber Valley

Derbyshire's hidden gem has plenty to offer runners this autumn...

Amber Valley, the hidden gem of Derbyshire, includes the hills and valleys that skirt the eastern fringes of the beautiful Peak District. It is a stunning part of the country and you can see for yourself at this year's Amberaid 30 and Petit Raid Trail Races which will take place on 19 October.

The Amberaid race is a 31-mile trail run over undulating countryside paths and trails. Starting at High Ashes Rural Project, the full route scribes a figure of eight through the rural splendour of the Amber Valley with plenty of highlights greeting runners on their way.

Those taking part can expect punchy climbs, engaging descents, expansive views and some of the most pleasant woodland trails you’ll find anywhere in the UK. Organisers comment: "This event has the makings of becoming one of the best 'small' ultra trail races in England."

Maybe you are not up to an ultra race, well as luck would have it there is also also the option of the Petit Raid, which is the Northern Loop of the full event and offers 20 miles of quality trail, hills, and views.

You will be well looked after on both courses with each checkpoint dishing out water. Checkpoint 1 and 3 has food too (granola and flapjack bars, bananas, crisps, individually wrapped savouries, pizza, etc).

Speaking about their event, organisers comment: "Whether you want an experience day in the Peak District, a trail race in attractive Derbyshire settings, learn to navigate, or undertake a mountain skills course in order to fuel your own adventures, we’ve likely got something for you.

We pride ourselves on delivering a patient, friendly activity whilst never losing sight of the professionalism required to uphold the highest of standards."
