Hendy staff Southampton Marathon group

Hendy's Staff Motor Into Southampton

The finish line looms large for any remaining entrants to sign up for the ABP Southampton Marathon, Half Marathon and 10k on Sunday, 22 April. Entries close on Thursday, 15 March so if you want to be jumping for joy like this group from Hendy’s FordStore in Eastleigh, you need to get your application in TODAY.

More than 20 members of staff from Hendy’s FordStore in Eastleigh have signed up and the company is also the official transport partner, providing the vital timing car and support vehicles. Last month they took part in a workplace training session with Gareth Allen from Studio Twenty3, who will be leading the warm up at this year’s event.

Mark Busby, commercial director at Hendy, said: “We’re thrilled with how motivated our staff have been with their training. Having a healthy and happy team is important to us and events like these really help our staff keep their bodies and minds fit.”

Organisers of the ABP Southampton Marathon have confirmed the routes for 2018’s event. Runners for the full and half marathons will now pass The Tudor House and Gardens at the start of the race. Then, following the iconic Itchen Bridge, the route will go into Woolston and along Weston Shore, giving runners a unique view of Southampton Water and the Solent.

Soccer fans will be happy as an exciting run right through St Mary’s Stadium makes another appearance before runners head over Northam Bridge and on to Riverside Park, Southampton Common and city centre parks before the big finish in Guildhall Square.

Last year's marathon champions were David Coak (Eastleigh RC, 2:51:02) and Sylwia Ward (Stubbington Green Runners, 3:29:25), while the half marathon winners were Matthew Bennet (Southampton AC, 1:12:28) and Simone Dailey (Winchester, 1:20:10). The 10k leaders were James Hughes (Itchen Spitfires, 36:47) and Charlotte Bowsher (Portsmouth, 38:58).
