The Power Of Three
Glasgow's lunchtime quickie makes its return...
After a Christmas break in December, Glasgow's lunchtime 'quickie' will stage its return on 27 January. The popular 3K On The Green series has been taking place for well over ten years now and is a favourite with city-based runners looking for a lunchtime fix on the last Friday of the month.
The monthly series brought the curtain down on 2022 back in November with a good turnout and fast times. David MacIntosh of Bellahouston Harriers stormed round in 09:36 while first female was Laura Gray of Garscube Harriers in 12:09.
It's not just about getting in a lunchtime run though, the event has also been playing its part for charity as well as race organiser Alasdair Murray explains: "Thanks to over 300 runners who took part in at least one 3K on the Green in 2022 we raised over £1,200 for charities."
Following the death of rugby legend, Doddie Weir proceeds from November's race were donated to the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation to help achieve a world free of MND.
The 3K is on a flat, accurately measured course around Glasgow Green. Starting at McLennan Arch the course follows the Clyde upstream for just over 1.5K where a quick turn takes runners back along the same path but this time going downstream to finish at the boat house.
Alasdair continued: "3K on the Green is an event for all abilities, from experienced club runners to the recreational jogger. Every runner gets a number and every runner gets a time. Nobody is too fast or too slow!"
The cost of the race is £2 with all proceeds going to charity. You can find out more at the 3K On The Green website.
