Have you got what it takes to be an ULTRA LONDONER?
Great Run's incredibly green ultra returns to the Capital Ring in July
After a highly successful launch event in 2019 and a year's absence due to the pandemic, ULTRA LONDON will return to the remarkably green Capital Ring around London on Saturday 31 July 2021.
With a choice of two distances available (27.5K, or 55K) and generous cut off times, the event is accessible to all, whether seasoned ultra-runners or first-timers looking to push their limits.
The inaugural ULTRA LONDON on 5 October 2019 saw 117 runners complete the 27.5K course in 5:32:58 and 257 were safely home in the 55K in 10:22:36. The fastest time over 27.5K was set by Florent Papeil (2:10:36) and the first home in the 55K was 2:44 marathoner Tom Kingham (Herne Hill, 4:15:15).
With organisation by Great Run Company and a way-marked course, ULTRA LONDON takes full advantage of the Capital Ring, a relatively unknown but spectacular 78-mile public footpath around London.
The picturesque route promises participants a chance to explore London’s iconic scenery on a mix of hidden trails, footpaths, parks, disused railway lines, and woodland around the capital.
LONDON 27.5 will start in Crystal Palace and finish in Richmond upon Thames, exploring the South West of London through stunning green spaces such as Wimbledon Common, Richmond Park and Richmond Green.
ULTRA LONDON 55 will see competitors complete the entire southern section of the Capital Ring, starting at the famous Woolwich Foot Tunnel and crossing through nine leafy London Boroughs before reaching the finish line in Richmond upon Thames.
Paul Foster, Chief Executive of The Great Run Company said, “We are delighted to be bringing London’s ultra-marathon back to the capital in 2021, building on the sold-out first staging of the event. London is the perfect location for an Ultra event; participants will experience stunning views and historic landmarks throughout the multi-terrain route, and excellent transport links ensure friends and family can support throughout the event and celebrate at the finish line.”
Entries are now open and for a limited time are available at a specially discounted launch price. For more information or to become an ULTRA LONDONER visit ULTRA LONDON here or runABC South race listing here
