Winter Solstice Wander Medal

Winter Solstice Strider In West Yorks

Wind through the woods on the shortest day of the year...

There's a brand new event for West Yorkshire this December - the Winter Solstice Strider. A sister event to Sue Ryder's popular 5 mile Summer Solstice Saunter, this much colder and 'darker' affair will take place (as the name gives away) on the winter solstice which this year falls on 21 December.

This will be a 5K or 10k evening run through the St. Ives Estate in Bingley for which head torches will be necessary. The run starts at STRI, the Bingley-based global design, engineering and management consultancy and then winds through the woods and, fittingly, past Druids Alter within the St. Ives Estate at Bingley.

Every participant will be chip-timed but whether you choose to run, jog or saunter, everyone will receive a unique bespoke Solstice Saunter medal which this time features a hedgehog by moonlight (see image).

For those who can't attend in person there will also be a virtual option where participants can choose to run 5K or 10K at a location of their own choice on the shortest day of the year. For doing so, they will receive their medal in advance of the day.

However you take part, the vital funds raised will help to support Sue Ryder's expert, compassionate care and fill someone's last days with love. With your support, the charity can be there when it matters for families going through the toughest times of their lives.
