Moakes and Taylor wow at Wilne
They took full advantage of the fast, flat, traffic-free course.
The 11th Wilne 10K was a course for celebration for Samuel Moakes and Charlotte Taylor. They took first places in a well supported event known for its PB potential in an attractive location. Treetops Hospice was the official charity for 2022.
Runners of all abilities were welcome at the Available Car Wilne 10K (Sunday 4 September), one of seven events in the popular RunDerby Race Series. It incorporated the Midlands 10K Road Race Championships which this year, featured Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s Team races meaning there was all to play for.
Top quality athletes are often amongst the field, competing for individual glory and championship prizes. The extensive prize list included cash and sports massage treatment vouchers for the top 6 men and women and age group winners. There were bottles of wine for the 1st local man and woman, Derby Runner gift vouchers for the 1st male and female team and treatment vouchers for the 1st to 5K man and woman. Last but not least, £150 cash prize for new male and female course records.
Over 800 participants gathered at Brookfield Farm, the site for the Race Village before lining up at the start on Sawley Road, ready to speed away at 10am. Ahead of them lay one and three quarter laps around Church Wilne on country lanes where local residents cheered them on.
Samuel Moakes of Sutton in Ashfield Harriers & AC was first home in 30:02. Only two seconds separated him from Notts AC Freddie Hessian who followed in 30:04. Charlie Brisley of Newham and Essex Beagles AC was third in 30:19.
For the women, Charlotte Taylor was the winner in 34:02 followed by Ellie Stevens of Birchfield Harriers in 34:48. Donna Sherwin of City of Stoke AC came third in 36:52.
