The Windermere Marathon is one of the UK's most scenic road marathons, taking runners on a spectacular journey through the heart of the Lake District National Park. First staged in 1982, the event follows an unforgettable route around England's largest lake and continues a proud tradition as one of Britain's most iconic destination marathons.
The point to point course starts near Waterhead, close to Ambleside, before heading around Lake Windermere on quiet Lakeland roads through picturesque villages including Hawkshead, Near Sawrey, Newby Bridge, Bowness on Windermere and Troutbeck Bridge. With approximately 600 metres of elevation gain, the route rewards runners with breathtaking views, varied terrain and a memorable finish at Brockhole on Windermere.
Combining outstanding organisation, accurate chip timing and one of Britain's most spectacular marathon settings, the Windermere Marathon attracts runners looking for a rewarding challenge where the scenery is every bit as memorable as the finish line.
