runABC is in the process of upgrading and improving its online service so you might encounter the odd glitch over the next week or so but rest assured we’re working on them and the new site will be a fantastic resource for our running community.

All welcome at West Highland Way Race training & inspiration night

On Wednesday, 27 February, Stirling’s Tollbooth Arts Centre will host an informal evening of advice and inspiration open to all runners – and support crews – tackling an ultra distance event for the first, second or even tenth time.

While the event is mainly targeted at those taking up the challenge of the Ronhill West Highland Way race in June, runners and crews taking on other challenges – like the Highland Fling or the Devil o’the Highlands – are also more than welcome to attend.

Organisers aim to provide ‘two full hours of information and inspiration, to help send you home with some new ideas to help you prepare better for whatever challenges you have ahead’.

Speakers include James Stewart, 2016 WHW winner and current GB 24-hour international, on training based on his own experiences of what has worked well and what hasn’t; Helen & John Munro on the dos and don’ts of crewing and supporting runners at ultra distance events; and Sean Stone, part of the WHW race medical team for the past 15 years, on the medical issues surrounding running distances of 50 miles or more, including injuries and warning signs.

The evening will also feature a WHW ‘Question Time’: your chance to ask a panel of experienced ultra runners about anything from training to trainers; support crew to schedules; and race prep to race food.

Confirmed members of the panel include 2018 ladies’ champion on her second attempt, Nicola Adams-Henry; 2018 winner and Scottish 100km international, David Adams; 2015 Ladies’ Champion, Jamie Aarons; and oldest ever female finisher, with a PB of just over 30 hours, Norma Bone.

Further updates to the line-up or schedule will be posted on the WHW Facebook and Twitter feeds.

Tickets to the training event are now available.
