White City Is Back In The Running
A new addition to London's 2027 running calendar, White City 10K promises closed road racing, a children's event and a connection to the area's remarkable athletics heritage...
This relates to: White City 10K
More than a century after White City helped make marathon history, another chapter in West London's running story is taking shape. The White City 10K arrives on Sunday 18 April 2027, bringing a closed road race to an area with an extraordinary sporting pedigree.
White City's place in athletics folklore stretches back to the 1908 London Olympics, when the marathon finished inside the original White City Stadium. That race helped establish the 26.2 mile marathon distance recognised around the world today. The stadium has long since disappeared, but the area's connection with athletics continues through nearby Linford Christie Stadium, which will host the start and finish of the new 10K.
The race promises a flat, fast course around the closed roads of West London, making it an appealing prospect for runners targeting a spring personal best. The main event starts at 9am, followed by a Children's 1K at 10:30am, giving younger runners their own opportunity to experience race day.
There is a strong local athletics connection too. Thames Valley Harriers, founded in 1887, is based at Linford Christie Stadium and has produced numerous international athletes, including the Olympic sprint champion whose name the venue carries. The White City 10K will give participants the option of fundraising for the club, helping support its work in the local community.
Fundraising is entirely voluntary, with runners free to support another charity or simply concentrate on their race. A personal Thames Valley Harriers fundraising page will be created automatically for entrants who wish to use it.
For London runners looking for something different next spring, White City brings together an intriguing sporting location, closed road racing and an opportunity to support grassroots athletics. The history is already there. Now it's time for a new generation of runners to make their mark.
