Entries for Glen Lyon Trail race should fly like a Rocket
Even in our uncertain world, organisers can still promise wet feet at their Perthshire event
Entries open tomorrow (Friday, 26 February) for the next edition of the Glen Lyon Trail Race. The event will be held on Sunday, 6 June – the day after its much bigger sibling, the UMTB four-point qualifier, the Glen Lyon Ultra.
As you might expect for a 15.5 mile circuit around remote and spectacular Glen Lyon – including a loop of Loch Lyon itself – the Trail Race is fully off-road and incorporates ‘numerous river crossings’, guaranteed to result in wet feet. Starting in front of the landmark dam, the ‘undulating’ and fully marked route is very runnable, making the Glen Lyon Trail Race suitable for both those new to trail running and more experienced off-roaders looking to increase their distance.
COIVID-19 restrictions permitting, there should also be ample space for runners to camp in front of the dam the night before the event.
Organisers Rocket Events stress that entries to this year’s edition of the Glen Lyon Trail Race will be limited to 200 and must be made via the application form on the Glen Lyon Race Chat Facebook page. Entries will also include a race memento and goody bag as well as the help of a marshalling team that is, in the words of the race director, ‘second to none’.
Limited places for the 2021 Glen Lyon Ultra (5 June 2021) are still available through the Glen Lyon Race Chat page or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org for an application form. The 80 available places for Rocket Events’ Glenmore 24 (3-5 September 2021) should also become available in March.
