London Marathon Events, organisers of the Vitality Westminster Mile, have informed runABC South that special British Milers Club (BMC) races will be held on Saturday, 27 September 2025, to showcase the current generation of superb middle-distance running talent. There will be cash prizes for first (£1,000), second (£500), and third (£250) in the men’s and women’s races.

The BMC Westminster Mile gives elite club athletes a rare opportunity to run an official mile road race on the Vitality Westminster Mile course, starting on The Mall and finishing in front of Buckingham Palace. Pacemakers will be organised for men looking to break the famous four-minute barrier, and women looking to go inside 4:20.

In last year’s inaugural event, GB international Katie Snowden (Herne Hill Harriers) set a rapid 4:22 course record, making her the eighth-fastest British athlete in history for a road mile, and the fastest ever run in the UK. The 2024 race made history on multiple counts, as Joe Wigfield (Wirral AC) became the first athlete to achieve a sub-four-minute mile on the road in London, breaking the tape in 3:59.

Other records to fall last year included Kirstie Booth’s 4:57 to set a W45 Masters Mile road best, beating the mark that had stood for 14 years, while there were new national men's age-group records by M55 Mark Symes (4:45) and M85 Doug Milsom (9:18).

Elaine Rayner, Event Lead for Vitality Westminster Mile, said: “We are delighted to welcome the BMC Westminster Mile back to the Vitality Westminster Mile. Our first edition last year was an incredible success with Joe Wigfield becoming the first person in the event's history to run sub-four and Katie Snowden running an incredible 4:23 to set a course record. That shows that, as well as the course being like no other in the world for landmarks, it is also very fast. So, anyone who is looking to enjoy a competitive, iconic, and fast mile to round off the season, this is for you.”

The Vitality Westminster Mile was launched in 2013 as a legacy from the 2012 London Olympic Games. Numerous waves are held and all standards are welcome. What's more, it's free for under-11s and there is a free Festival Area in Green Park where you can celebrate with family and friends! To enter one of the mass participation events, click here.
