The Race Organiser springs into action
The Race Organiser has been doing what he does best – organising races. AKA Craig Thornton and his busy team, The Race Organiser promotes around 100 separate races each year, ranging from a 'Toddler Dash' to a full fat 24-mile marathon preparation run in a packed portfolio.
The phrase 'marathon preparation' means that spring is definitely here – a time when a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of his love of marathon running, to misquote Tennyson!
The romance of the marathon, for young and old and both genders, is certainly improved with planning and attention to small details that can make all the difference. To help us make those marginal gains, The Race Organiser offers 16, 20 or 24 miles on the flat, smooth circuit round Dorney Lake, Windsor on 31 March. For a modest entry fee you can expect perfect pacers, mile markers, fuel and water stations and your chip-timed results as soon as you cross the line.
A spectacular 13.1 mile race is available one week later on Sunday 7 April. The Grand Union Canal Half Marathon runs beside part of the famous 137 mile waterway opened in 1929. The course takes runners from Cowley Recreation Ground, Uxbridge to Cassiobury Park, Watford. Coach transport is provided from the finish to the start for this unusual point-to-point race.
There are 10K races at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (pictured below) on 6 April and 4 May and Regent's Park Summer Series, with 10K or half marathon opportunities, begins on 7 April.
If you prefer something more forgiving underfoot you could head for the Stockley Park 10K and Family Fun Run on 11 May and on the same day the Essex Summer Cross Country Series commences at Hylands Park, Chelmsford.
This is just a taster of what The Race Organiser offers in the coming months. For the full programme visit The Race Organiser website, where you can also apply for Gold Club membership, with entry for a single annual fee to all the races, including triathlons, duathlons and aquathlon events
