runABC is in the process of upgrading and improving its online service so you might encounter the odd glitch over the next week or so but rest assured we’re working on them and the new site will be a fantastic resource for our running community.

Super Six: rewarding virtual challenges

Always Aim High Events have responded to the lockdown by launching a series of challenges throughout May that will keep everyone active and focused despite the restrictions. Tough out your time at home by running, walking, cycling, stair climbing or a duathlon and be added to the ‘Roll of Honour’.

Organised through their not-for-profit arm, Always Aim High Community Events, this month-long virtual initiative recognises people’s need to stay fit and active during the crisis and has given them a goal to aim for that is both realistic and worthwhile. This can be done locally or at home – in accordance with the latest government guidelines – and families and virtual groups can take part as well as individuals.

There are six challenges:

  • Half Marathon Run in 24 hours
  • Run/Walk 25km, 50km, 75km, 100km
  • Cycle 100km, 150km, 200km, 250km
  • Children’s 3km, 5km, 10km
  • Duathlon 25km Run and 100km Bike
  • Staircase 30 – climb the equivalent of Mont Blanc (4808m) in 30 days

These can be broken down into chunks making them easier to fit around other lockdown activities. Every bit of exercise counts towards the target distance and in the case of the 24 hour Half Marathon, laps around the garden or driveway are allowed along with daily exercise.

Participants must remember to record their activities and send this as proof to Always Aim High Events. Everyone who completes their challenge will be included in the ‘Roll of Honour’ on the website and receive a bespoke slate coaster and socks in return.
