Boxing Day... Sorted!
There's still time to enter Chester's ever-popular Boxing Day race...
Boxing Day means many things to many people. For some, it is a day to laze around the TV eating festive leftovers while for others it's repeat of the day before with the inlaws! There are those who have to work and of course there are also those to HAVE to run, luckily for them Boxing Day races have proved popular over the years, and none more so than the Chester Round The Walls Race.
Organised by West Cheshire Athletic Club, The Chester Round the Walls multi-terrain race is one of the oldest races in the UK, being an almost permanent Boxing Day fixture since its inception in 1972.
Although changing almost every year due to weather and ongoing maintenance of the roman and medieval walls, the typical route is around 6.8K, starting and finishing on the Roodee Racecourse and including sections of the walls including the iconic Eastgate Clock.
The race follows the best path to appreciate the city walls and in 2021 the route will take in one full lap of the walls as well as a lap around the race course.
Last year saw the cancellation of the event due to COVID regulations, it was taken badly by many of the race's long-standing fans, commenting on Facebook one said: "Seems like Christmas won't be going ahead. Just not the same without the Boxing Day Round The Walls. Understandable. See you next year!"
Boxing Day race aficionados have been signing up for their festive fix since November and the good news is that there are still places available with entries closing on Christmas Day!
