Buttermere Trail Run

Be Quick For Buttermere

This scenic trail race offers a classic combination of lakes, mountains and waterfalls...

There's still time to be a part of this year's Buttermere Trail Run, with its race date of 17 March appearing on the horizon. Yes, it may only be a fortnight away - but with a course 'to die for' it might be worth a last minute decision and booking!

This stunning trail race is based in the beautiful Buttermere Valley. Set amidst a dramatic landscape of high fells, runners will experience an incredible circular route around the shores of Buttermere and Crummock Water.

Speaking about the event, organisers say: "It's an ideal route for all abilities, you do not have to be super-fast or an elite athlete to enter, perfect if you are new to trail running and looking for a new challenge. The route will be fully marked so no navigation experience is necessary."

Those taking part can expect a low level undulating route with a great combination of off-road running terrain throughout ranging from lakeshore trails, hard-packed rocky trails, grassy tracks and woodland single track. The initial part of the course is considered more technical as the terrain along the western shoreline of Crummock Water is generally wet and rough underfoot. The second part comprises more hard packed trails.

This is a race that can offer lakes, mountains and waterfalls... The initial section follows the southwest shoreline of Buttermere Lake through the beautiful setting of Burtness Wood at the base of Red Pike and High Stile. Returning through the woodland, the route then passes the spectacular waterfall of Sourmilk Gill before contouring along the western shoreline of Crummock Water at the base of Melbreak.

Participants will be able to savour the views down the whole valley from the pine clad northern shoreline of Lanthwaite Woods before returning along the eastern shores via the base of Rannerdale Knotts.
