Still time for Blackburn Winter Warmer
There’s still time left to enter Blackburn’s favourite annual 10k, the Winter Warner. The event, scheduled for Sunday 3 February, is known for its welcoming atmosphere and an attractive course that is a nice blend of road racing and countryside running.
Next month’s event will see runners depart from the athletics track in Witton Park and then climb the heights of the famous (amongst local runners!) Buncer Lane. They then descend through the stunning countryside at Pleasington then back through the park for a racing finish on the track.
Last year saw Blackburn Harriers’ Ben Fish claim bragging rights in 31:58, followed by clubmate Tim Raynes (32:30) with Danny Collinge taking third in 34:07. First female was Salford Harriers’ Hayley Kytewr in 38:02, whose closest competitors were Sarah Ridehalgh (42:09) and Helen Lawrenson (43:36).
For the 2019 staging, runners are being challenged to #beatbuncer – the challenging climb at Buncer Lane. Organisers Blackburn Road Runners have said they 'don’t care about speed, we don't care about style - just make it up that hill then enjoy the downhill ride through the beautiful countryside'.
Also in store for next month’s competitors are some motivational tunes throughout the course (earphones are strictly forbidden and will result in disqualification). Runners are being encouraged to submit their requests on the event’s Facebook page for their favourite tunes.
Registration for the Blackburn Winter Warmer 10K is priced at just £17.60 (£15.50 affiliated). Entry is available here.
