Happy runners at Ultra North event

In for the long run as Ultra North is back & open for entries

Exciting 55K for the aspiring ultra runner and 25K test just for fun

Anyone looking for a new challenge when lockdown 3.0 ends would do well to consider Ultra North from The Great Run Company. A live event with two distances to choose from and both fully marked courses that takes participants on a Grand Tour of the North East.

This event was ready to make its debut in April 2020 but was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Fortune lent a hand as the organisers were able to host a Covid-secure Ultra North on Saturday 3 October and to great success, giving them the confidence to schedule it again for the following year. Ultra North 55 and North 25 will take place on Saturday 5 June 2021.

Open to walkers as well as runners, the 55K and 25K start and finish at Derwenthaugh Park – one of a couple of changes this year. The routes are a mixture of urban and rural, through parkland and along woodland trails and disused railway tracks and passing famous landmarks that include the Millennium Bridge, Hadrian’s Way, 9 Arches Viaduct and Derwent Walk. They are fully signed and with generous cut off times and checkpoints, are suitable for the newcomer and the 55K is a good first ultra for any runner ready to go beyond marathon distance.

Whilst the landmarks are focal points, the routes will in the words of Paul Foster, Chief Executive of The Great Run Company says: “Provide a challenge and perhaps some surprises along the way but all participants will receive a big Geordie ‘welcome home’ as they cross the finish line.”

Entries are open and for a limited time only are available at a special launch price. Sign up for 55K or 25K at the Ultra North website.
