The Bloodaxe Challenge

Stand up to Bloodaxe Challenge

It may have a slightly gruesome name but The Bloodaxe Challenge is all about the joy of running at whatever level you feel most comfortable. The event, staged at York Sports Village's 1k cycle circuit, invites participants to complete as many (or as few) laps within the two hour limit.

Returning for its second staging on Sunday 17 February, The Bloodaxe Challenge is being held in the middle of the Jorvik Viking Festival and is named after the notorious Viking king, Eric Bloodaxe.

The event is all about the level of the participant, as detailed by the race organisers: “If you are a beginner, turn up and run 5 laps. Building up from 5k? Then turn up and run 10 laps.

"Alternatively, if you are super fit and looking for the ultimate challenge, try and see how many laps you can squeeze in within the time limit. The choice is yours. No matter how many laps you run, all runners receive the same bespoke medal and a goody bag.”

After attracting a full house last year, next month’s event is expected to fill up, although there are around 80 places remaining at the moment. Further information including registration is available here.
