SOAR X TOUR feeds the need for speed

Virtual racing with cash prizes will see racers test themselves

SOAR X TOUR is all set to take virtual racing to the next level from this weekend. Starting on Saturday (22 August) runners are invited to tackle three distances within 10 days with cash prizes at stake.

SOAR X TOUR comprises virtual stages of 1K, 1 Mile and 5K to be run on separate occasions between Saturday 22 August and Monday 31 August 2020. Entries are open to runners of any standard, with the aim to achieve peak performances, while true competition for most is still unavailable.

Top athletes have already been attracted by the thrill of testing themselves in virtual competition and perhaps the incentive of cash prizes of £200, £100 and £50 for the top three men and women overall in the Tour. In addition, there are £100 individual 'stage fastest time' prizes and further SOAR awards for the leading Masters in V40, V50 and V60 categories; the 'King of the Mountains' for the runner who gains the most elevation and a 'Consistency' prize for the runner with the least variation in finishing positions across the three runs.

Among the likely winners are Tom Marshall (Cardiff) – 3:37.45 1500m runner and sub-four-minute miler – and Christian Von Eitzen (Newham & Essex Beagles) who is originally from Germany and boasts an impressive 800m time of 1:46.88.

SOAR Running's Head of Marketing, Rob Wilson said: “Racing as we know and love it may be taking a while to return, but our desire to run fast and test ourselves hasn't gone away. The SOAR X TOUR is our way of staying true to the pursuit of summer speed. With a three-staged virtual races series, open to runners worldwide."

With generous prizes at stake, it will come as no surprise to hear there are a few rules. Runs must be completed in the order specified; no more than 2m per kilometre net elevation decrease is permitted and SOAR Running reserves the right to disqualify any athlete suspected of GPS-doping (a new phrase to runABC)!
