Smithy’s Charity Trail Run

Charity On The Trails

This charity trail run is a fantastic option for runners in the north west this spring...

Runners and their four legged friends are invited to hit the trails this spring as Smithy’s Charity Trail Run returns on 21 March 2026 in Egerton, near Bolton. Based at Egerton Cricket Club, the popular event features a fully marked five mile trail route through the local countryside, with all proceeds helping to raise vital funds for Bolton Hospice.

Organisers say the race is ideal for newcomers looking to take on their first trail challenge as well as more experienced runners keen for an early season outing in friendly surroundings. Dogs are also welcome to take part alongside their owners, adding to the relaxed and inclusive feel of the day.

The event village promises a lively atmosphere for supporters and families, with a children’s 1K fun run taking place in the afternoon.

Food and entertainment will be on offer throughout the day, helping to make the event a fun outing for friends and family as well as a fantastic fundraising effort by all. Those that actually take on the trails will be pleased to hear that every finisher will receive a medal, along with drinks and homemade cakes at the finish line!

Last year’s race attracted more than 100 participants, with George Martindale taking the win in 32:1. Bella Mercer was first female home in 35:08, finishing an impressive sixth overall.
