Party On Skye
Join the celebrations in Skye this summer....
It's the big 40 for one of Scotland's most scenic events this year and the Skye Half Marathon is inviting runners from across the country to come and help them celebrate.
Organisers say: "Join us and be part of our milestone race for a truly unforgettable experience. Challenge yourself, help raise funds for local charities, have a grand day out and an inspirational run in a spectacular location."
In 2023 the half marathon distance was joined by a 10K race too and as it was such a success the same format will apply this year as well. Scheduled for 8 June, both races follow a single-track, closed road through brooding, dramatic but spectacular countryside.
Organisers continue: "Experience the peace and tranquility of the beautiful, remote Isle of Skye, the largest and northernmost of the major islands in the Inner Hebrides, and home to some of Scotland’s most iconic landscapes. Renowned for its strong community, friendly welcome, and a race run on closed roads, the Skye Half Marathon is a bucket list race."
The Skye Half Marathon is a chip timed loop that climbs gradually away from Portree for the first 1.5 miles, on to Drumuie before a fast downhill 2 miles to the Kensaleyre turn. The route then follows a single-track road through spectacular countryside, at times beside Skye’s longest River, the River Snizort, famed for its salmon and sea trout and fished by fishermen from across the globe. The 10K joins in at the 11K mark of the half marathon course.
All finishers will receive a unique commemorative medal as well as some race goodies. There is also a fun run which is chip timed, and finishers here will also receive an original bespoke medal.
