Season’s runnings at Tatton Yule Yomp
Santa’s little helpers were one of several groups who took time out from their busy schedule to appear at the Tatton Yule Yomp 10K (Sunday 8 December). They got Christmas off to a running start at this entertaining event.
Bostock brass band played for 1,500 participants at this annual festive 10K from Cheshire Hash House Harriers that raises a substantial amount for charity. A favourite with runners for its location, course and atmosphere it sells out well in advance and this year was no exception as a full entry made their way to Tatton Park in Knutsford.
Santas, reindeer, snowmen, sparkly Christmas trees and the Elf Squad toed the line. They were amongst a mix of runners, some focused on a PB, others out to enjoy the day. There was a 3K Fun Run organised by KTC Junior for youngsters aged 6 to 16 who also entered into the spirit of the occasion by dressing up.
The undulating route went through fields, woods and water although the last mile was on tarmac - perfect for a last dash to the finish line. Arran McCloskey of Knutsford Tri Club was first home in 37:27 followed by Thomas Outteridge in 38:05. Rob Fowler was third in 38:31. Nadine Tomkinson of Newcastle (Staffs) AC was the winning female in 43:43. Nicola Reece of Wilmslow RC was second in 44:00, only one second separating her and Sam Jones of Stockport Harriers AC who finished third in 44:01.
The day was summed up by Nicky Owen who said: “Thanks to all 1,500 who ran, many in fancy dress and to all the marshals and sponsors for helping to raise the best part of £25K for our charities.”
