‘Be Prepared’ for the Milngavie Trail Race

Scouts promise challenging trails, cake and more cake at their summer trail race

Entries have just opened for the Milngavie Trail Race, a challenging event based around the ‘wild and beautiful trails’ of the West Highland Way and Mugdock Country Park.

The race, organised by 20th Glasgow (1st Milngavie) Scout Group, will be held on Sunday, 6 June 2021 – subject to the usual caveats about coronavirus restrictions.

The Milngavie Trail Race will start and finish at the headquarters of the 20th Glasgow (1st Milngavie) Scout Group and take runners out through some very scenic and challenging terrain. The fully marked, signposted and marshalled route will be a mix of hard trails, single track and unmade ground – but there will be no water or feed stations on the course. It remains the runners’ responsibility to carry any water or food that they will require for the duration of the approximately 8.4 mile long event.

At time of writing, around 260 of the chip-timed event’s 300 places had been sold. Once the last places are gone, the organisers will operate a waiting list.

Any funds raised from the Milngavie Trail Race will go towards much needed improvements and repairs to the Scout Hall and its grounds, as well as to purchase new equipment to provide activities and fun for the pack’s 190 young members.

All finishers will receive a medal and ‘as much tea, coffee and cake as they can eat’ at race HQ after the event.

Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third placed males and females overall. The winners of the senior male and female categories will be presented with the Milngavie Scout Staffs for safe keeping.
