Festive fun at Scotland’s parkruns
Burn off those mince pies or start your New Year right with parkrun
Most of Scotland’s parkruns have now confirmed their holiday event calendars – subject to any coronavirus restrictions that may come into force over the weeks ahead.
Nearly 30 venues will be holding events on both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, including Aberdeen, Perth, Victoria Park and Camperdown Park Dundee.
Just over a dozen, including Strathcylde, Dunfermline and Victoria Park Juniors, will be holding events only on New Year’s Day.
As always, runners are advised to check the event’s social media for details of last minute changes or cancellations before heading out.
Runners should also confirm the times of their chosen run, as they can differ from usual – but only one result will be recorded for each special day.
At this time of year, many events are at the mercy of the weather – but last minute cancellations by volunteers can also scupper a run.
One parkrun volunteer we spoke to told us, “At the moment, we have a full roster, but it’s always good to have a few more volunteers up our sleeves. Coughs, colds, sick kids and last minute changes of holiday plans can lead to the cancellation of an event so many runners are looking forward to.
“If you aren’t up to running this year, please consider volunteering – even if you’ve never done it before. We want everyone to have a good end to 2021 or fresh start to 2022, and parkrun is a bit part of that for many people”
