Dashing runners have a Blast in Edinburgh
Fine array of Santas, elves and at least one turkey spotted on the capital’s Promenade
‘Dank, dreich’ weather didn’t stop nearly 300 runners from taking on Blast Running’s Santa Dash on Sunday morning (19 December).
The festive event offered runners a choice of three distances – 7K, 14K or half marathon – by completing one, two or three laps respectively of the Silverknowes promenade.
One runner called the event a ‘blast by name and blast by nature’, and the most fun she’d ever had running a half marathon.
In addition to being a whole lot of fun, the event raised much needed funds for local charity Play Therapy Base Midlothian.
The 223 runners who completed their races also appreciated the hot chocolate and mince pies served by members of the Blast Running crew afterwards.
The marshalls, too, came in for particular praise on a horrible day on not the kindest of courses. One runner commented, ‘not sure how much fun three laps of the prom is, but the marshals were so fab in cheering us on’.
Edinburgh runners of all ages and abilities who want to keep the festive vibes jingling can take part in Blast Running’s ‘Mulled Wine 5K’, to be held this lunchtime (Tuesday, 21 December) at the Meadows.
Blast Running’s New Year 5K and 10K are currently scheduled for Sunday, 16 January.
