Runners in the 10K and 5K beat the heat and a challenging course at this annual fundraising event

It was hot, hilly and a whole lot of fun at the Bromsgrove 10K & 5K (Sunday 14 May) as more than 300 runners came together at this long-standing event in support of Blood Cancer UK. They got their teeth into Walnut Lane...

The Blood Cancer UK Bromsgrove Fun Run has grown in popularity since its debut over 30 years ago and has become a firm favourite with many runners. It was held at Bromsgrove Rugby Club with two distances to choose from – 10K and 5K – making it accessible to all.

This event was organised by Blood Cancer UK Bromsgrove and District Branch where everyone irrespective of age or ability did their bit to raise money for the charity.

The 10K started at 11am followed by the 5K at 11.10am where runners in both followed an attractive and undulating course on leafy lanes. The evnt was superbly well marshalled, chip timed and had plenty of water stations along the way.

Over in the 10K, Tom Bristowe won in 34:50 followed by Patrick Mackie in 37:04 and Ollie Wilson in 37:32.

For the women, Megan Judge was the winner in 41:10. Kerry Poole was second in 47:41 and Tania Peters third in 48:48.

Speedy youngster Lucy Hellingsworth won the 5K in 21:36. Harry Helmore raced home in second place in 22:04 and Evan Carvill third in 24:25.

There were cash prizes for the top three men and women and age category winners in both races. All finishers received a medal.
