Grimsby 10K promises a great day at the race
The course includes a ‘Mad Mile’ for an extra challenge.
There is still time to enter the Great Grimsby 10K on Sunday 5 June and soak up the course, atmosphere with a big Grimsby cheer at the finish. Runners of all ages and abilities can expect outstanding support from the local community and with any luck, a PB to go with their t-shirt, medal and cake.
It is the 7th outing for the Ørsted Great Grimsby 10K which starts at 9am from the Grade II listed Town Hall and continues on a fast and flat route around this Lincolnshire seaport. There is music and entertainment along the way, three water stations and, a jelly baby station to boost energy levels.
Renewable energy company Ørsted is the headline sponsor and participants will be running like the wind especially on the EQUANS Mad Mile section where they aim to complete this in their fastest time possible. Pacers will be on hand to help anyone aiming for a target time and cheering crowds at the finish in People’s Park.
As this is an inclusive event, the young and young-at-heart are welcome to try the St Hugh’s Hospital Family Fun Run. You'll run, jog or walk 1K which starts near the People’s Park and finishes at the same place as the 10K to enthusiastic applause from spectators. Also taking part is an active group from Grimsby charity Friendship at Home who aim to show age is just a number and are looking forward to the fresh air and exercise along with the company of others. Finishers will receive a medal, drink and sweets for their efforts.
North East Lincolnshire Council is one of several key sponsors and many local businesses have lent their backing, enabling it to go ahead. The event is supporting seven charities and community groups.
All in all, it should be a great run in the sun (fingers crossed!) and a way to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee whilst helping others in need.
