Smiles and thumbs up at rescheduled Hopton Court Trail Run

Autumn delight for trail runners at Hopton Court

Sunshine and smiles at the socially distanced and secure Hopton Court Trail Run

Blue skies, a stunning course and a friendly atmosphere were highlights of Sunday’s (27 September) Hopton Court Trail Run as the move to an autumn date proved a fruitful one. Runners took advantage of the opportunity to run in a private estate at this Covid-secure event in South Shropshire and the two new distances were a success.

The Hopton Court Trail Run was due to take place in the summer but the uncertainty generated by the coronavirus pandemic led to a change of date for the event. It was rescheduled from July to September and the required safety measures put in place, ensuring it met government and UK Athletics guidelines. Runners started in waves and social distancing was maintained at all times.

There were choices of a 5K, 10K and Half Marathon and a new 20K relay for teams of four people was included. Also new was the option to run with a dog in all the races. Every dog had to wear a Canicross harness.

The weather was perfect as the participants both human and canine were treated to a beautiful multi-terrain and challenging course through woodland, across fields and streams. They completed one lap for the 5K, two laps for a 10K or four laps plus an extra 1KM loop for the Half Marathon. Entrants in the 20K Team Relay each completed a 5K lap. All finishers received a medal.

Whilst the organisation and conditions were vote winners, there was also praise for the volunteers who helped to make it an enjoyable (and safe) day. For some people it was their first trail run but it won’t be their last. They will be back...

This event was aptly summed up as: “A lovely off-road run in glorious sunshine”, thanks to organisers Lindsey Allen and Dave Spiers whose hard work and efforts made this a reality.
